15 Reasons Invisalign Is THE Best Choice to Straighten Your Teeth!

Invisalign is Awesome!

If you are considering ways to straighten your teeth for yourself or for your children, you have probably thought about traditional braces and/or Invisalign as potential options. While both options are effective ways to obtain a straighter smile, there is a long list of benefits that come along with Invisalign. In this article, we will go over some of the main differences between traditional braces and Invisalign that you should consider.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment uses advanced technology to progressively straighten your teeth through the process of wearing clear aligners. Many of our patients at Team Dental love Invisalign because it leads to greater confidence and a beautiful smile without many of the restrictions that come with traditional braces. If you are looking for an effective way to straighten your teeth, you may want to consider these 15 reasons to choose Invisalign.

Invisalign is Awesome!Reasons to Choose Invisalign

1. Virtually Invisible

One of the most obvious benefits of choosing Invisalign is that the Invisalign aligners are clear, which makes them virtually invisible. The clear plastic is digitally molded to your teeth with extreme precision to ensure that they are a tight fit. Invisalign holds several patents on this precision fit technology. Your friends and family may not even be able to tell that you are wearing them.

2. No Food Restrictions

Another reason to choose Invisalign over traditional braces is that the aligners are removable. This means that you can take them out to eat, and do not have any food restrictions. Whereas traditional braces come with a long list of foods that are off-limits due to the risk of damaging the braces, some of which include: gum, caramel, or pretty much anything sticky.

3. Easier to Clean

Additionally, with Invisalign it is easier to maintain proper oral hygiene since you are able to remove the aligners. Traditional braces make brushing and flossing much more challenging due to all of the wires and brackets. Food also often gets stuck in between brackets and may be harder to reach with brushing and flossing.

Oftentimes, patients get severe gingivitis, puffy and inflamed gums that bleed, from the plaque that accumulates above the brackets. Patients even get cavities or white spots, from demineralized enamel around the brackets.

If you are wondering how to clean your trays, EverSmile® WhiteFoam™ is a patented cleaning formulation designed to clean & freshen orthodontic aligners & clear retainers on-the-go with virtually no tooth sensitivity. No soaking or rinsing required, just pump the foam into your trays, place them in your mouth, and go! 4. Comfort

Although Invisalign may be slightly uncomfortable when you are starting the process, the aligners offer patients much more comfort than traditional braces. Traditional braces can often be painful and uncomfortable due to all of the metal brackets and wires that may irritate the inside of your mouth. Many patients who have traditional braces obtain cuts on the inside of their mouths or on their inner cheeks. Patients are also susceptible to cuts if the metal brackets or wire break, and this would call for the patient to visit their orthodontist in order to replace the broken brackets or wires. Additionally, most braces patients feel significant pain after the orthodontist tightens the wires after each appointment.  Sometimes requiring eating soft foods and taking pain medications.  Changing aligners is like wearing a new pair of shoes- they are tight in the beginning, feel and look new, until they are comfortable and broken, then the process is repeated until your teeth are straight!

5. Convenience

While traditional braces require patients to visit the Orthodontist often in order to tighten wires and change rubber bands, Invisalign gives patients more flexibility by only visiting the dentist once every two to three months. At Team Dental our staff sends you home with multiple sets of aligners, labeled with instructions and dates to change, to offer you more flexibility in your schedule. A patient is then able to change their aligners on their own time and continue the Invisalign process as efficiently as possible. You can also have your regular cleanings and dental visits all done when you come in for Invisalign treatment.

6. Fast Results

It’s never too late to straighten your teeth. Patients will see amazing and fast results when they begin their Invisalign journey. The amount of time that patients have to wear Invisalign is usually significantly shorter in length than the typical course for wearing traditional braces. Even though patients are able to remove the Invisalign aligners for cleaning and eating purposes, we suggest keeping them in for 22-23 hours a day for the best results.

7. Project Your End Result

One of the amazing parts of an Invisalign journey is the fact that you are able to project what your end results will be! This is different from the traditional braces process because traditional braces do not allow patients to visualize or project their end result. In the case of traditional braces, an orthodontist will try to verbally describe what they project that a patient’s teeth will look like and how they will move. Thanks to the amazing technology that is used with Invisalign, our staff at Team Dental is able to actually visualize what your end results will be after you complete your Invisalign treatment. This is helpful because patients are actually able to see what their smile will be and ensure that they are happy with results before starting treatment.

8. More Efficient Process

Unlike some stages of braces, Invisalign utilizes momentum to efficiently move your teeth. Invisalign works to gradually and consistently move your teeth with various sets of aligners. This is different from the process of traditional braces because Invisalign uses more consistent forces so the bone doesn’t start to heal before treatment is completed. The forces of Invisalign are very low and very controlled whereas the forces used for braces can vary greatly depending on the doctor, and can be potentially damaging. To break this down a little further, generally, teeth move between 7 and 14 days. Before the body has a chance for the bone to begin settling into place, you move onto your next set of aligners so that the process is more efficient. This is compared to braces where you are only seeing the orthodontist (on average once a month or once every two months) so that the bone actually begins to heal before you move onto your next wire.

9. Aligners Help with Clenching and Grinding

If you are someone who grinds or clenches your teeth, then Invisalign will help work as a pseudo-mouthguard to protect your teeth. Many people clench or grind teeth while they are sleeping without even knowing it. This can be harmful because it can cause damage to the enamel of your teeth, which is the protective layer that helps prevent sensitivity and cavities. Invisalign aligners can be an effective way to keep your teeth protected from clenching or grinding that may occur throughout the day or during sleep. While it should be noted that Invisalign is not a replacement for an actual night guard, this treatment can be a really good alternative to using nothing at all.

10. Ideal Bite

While Invisalign helps to aesthetically straighten teeth, it can also be used as an effective method for obtaining a healthy and properly aligned bite. A properly trained, experienced, and detail oriented Invisalign provider will work to ensure your treatment creates the most ideal bite possible. This is done by remodeling the jaw and moving the teeth their ideal location.  It does this by changing the position of the teeth inside the jaw. Additionally, this can help patients who experience jaw pain. In some cases, Invisalign can even help patients with headaches due to jaw and bite alignment.  The ideal bite/teeth position also prevents teeth from cracking, chipping, wearing, becoming sensitive, receding gums, allowing for gums/teeth to be properly cleaned so plaque and tartar don’t build up causing gingival inflammation and long term tooth loss. Many Team Dental patients opt for Invisalign treatment even if they already feel satisfied with the way their teeth look because they want to protect their smile and keep their teeth as healthy as possible.

11. Discipline and Habit Formation

Invisalign is a commitment to oral health. That commitment to your oral health translates into brushing well, flossing, keeping teeth clean. Many patients often discover that they are brushing their teeth more often and flossing more often because they are more committed to obtaining their ideal smile. This healthy habit formation can also translate into other areas of your life as well. Many of our patients at Team Dental experience cascading positive habits, like eating healthy, creating positive workout routines, etc.

12. Self-esteem and Confidence

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. According to the Academy of General Dentistry, 40 percent of survey respondents notice a smile first in people they work with, and 96 percent believe that a smile is important to a person’s appearance. Invisalign helps patients confidently obtain a straighter smile. Patients are also able to feel confident during their Invisalign treatment because the aligners are virtually invisible. Additionally, as mentioned above, patients are able to remove their aligners for special occasions and during eating and drinking. This allows patients to obtain control and flexibility over their treatment. The clear aligners and fast process both work together to give patients results that they can feel confident with.

13. Better Retainers

Traditionally, after a patient gets their braces taken off, they receive one set of retainers from their orthodontist. With Invisalign, we offer patients four sets of Vivera retainers. This may seem like a small detail, but retainers can be expensive and are often misplaced easily. These are extremely high quality retainers made with superior plastic. This differs from most retainers because they aren’t made in the office like the cheaper versions that orthodontists might give their patients. This is essentially the patient’s warranty, in other words, teeth shift throughout one’s life. These shifts are just a part of aging that are often unavoidable. Having extra sets of retainers is a wonderful added bonus to choosing Invisalign with Team Dental.

14. Can be used as Whitening Trays

Another benefit of Invisalign that you might not have considered is the fact that the aligners can also double as whitening trays! Whitening your teeth while you also straighten your teeth is a wonderful way to make the most out of your Invisalign treatment. Who doesn’t love a straight and white smile?

15. Long term relationship

We get to treat our patients before, during, and after Invisalign treatment.  We know our patients really really well and they aren’t being treated short term by a specialist but stay in our practice for years and we know all of our patients needs and can treatment holistically
